Fad Diets

There are some very strange fad diets in existence. Some ask you to cut out a particular type of food or nutrient from your diet, while others tell you that you must only eat a particular sort of food. Some people claim that they followed a particular diet and achieved spectacular results, while other people, often after trying the same diet, failed to lose any weight at all.

Fad diets usually make very strange and often almost impossible demands upon people. If you are able to stick to their recommendations, you can expect to feel tired and ill. These diets work by denying you your basic nutritional requirements, whereas diets that are more sensible aim to keep you healthy and help you cut back on the unnecessary foods that you are overeating.

A good diet is one that you can stick with for the rest of your life. A fad diet is one that is intended for a quick fix, and is usually only designed for use over a short period of days or weeks. The weight that is lost during this period often comes straight back as soon as you start eating normally again.

They make promises that are clearly too good to be true, both in terms of the amount of weight you will lose and how quickly it will be lost. It takes time for the body to lose its store of fat safely. If the loss is too large and too fast it can be harmful, and it is often also a sign that what is being lost is water. This will return as soon as you stop flushing out your digestive system with a high fiber or fluid based fad diet.

The huge range of different diets that are out there, and all of the conflicting evidence about them is incredibly confusing. Even so, it is very tempting to believe some of the claims that are made about these fad diets. Who doesn't want to believe that there is a new miracle diet that can help them to achieve their weight loss goals in no time, and hopefully with very little effort?
